Custom Sock Design Process: Step-by-Step Guide (2026)
Not sure how the custom sock design process works? In this guide, we walk you through every step — from your first idea to the final socks arriving at your door. By the end, you will know exactly what to expect and how to prepare your design files.
Step 1: Share Your Design Idea
The first step is simple: tell us what you want. You can send:
- Your logo file (AI, PDF, PNG, or even a hand-drawn sketch)
- Reference images of socks you like
- Color preferences (Pantone numbers are ideal)
- Any text or tagline you want included
Do not have a design yet? No problem. Our in-house design team can create a mockup for you based on your ideas.
Step 2: Receive Your Free Design Mockup (24 Hours)
Within 24 hours, you will receive a digital mockup showing exactly how your socks will look. You can request revisions — we will adjust colors, position, sizing, or anything else until you are happy with the design.
Pro tip: Be specific with your feedback. The more detailed you are, the faster we can get it right.
Step 3: Approve Your Physical Sample (3 Days)
Once you approve the digital mockup, we produce a physical sample and ship it to you. This takes just 3 days from approval.
The sample lets you check:
- Exact colors and knit quality
- Comfort and fit
- Logo placement and clarity
If anything needs adjusting, we will make revisions and send a new sample.
Step 4: Production Begins
Once you approve the sample, production begins. Here is what happens behind the scenes:
- Yarn is dyed to match your exact colors
- Knitting machines are programmed with your design
- Socks are knitted in small batches for quality control
- Each pair passes a 5-point quality inspection
- Custom packaging is applied (labels, tags, boxes, etc.)
Step 5: Quality Check & Packaging
Every pair of socks goes through a rigorous 5-point quality check:
- Knit density: Checking for consistent stitch quality
- Color matching: Comparing against approved sample
- Logo clarity: Ensuring no mistakes in the design
- Size accuracy: Measuring against size specifications
- Appearance: Final visual inspection for flaws
Step 6: Shipping to Your Door
We ship worldwide via DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) — one price, no hidden fees. Your socks are delivered straight to your door. Typical shipping times:
- USA: 7-10 days
- UK / Europe: 8-12 days
- Australia: 10-14 days
- Canada: 7-10 days

Artwork File Requirements
To produce a great custom sock, our design team needs a clean artwork file. Here’s what works best:
Recommended Formats
- Vector files: AI, EPS, SVG, PDF — best quality, infinitely scalable
- High-resolution raster: PNG/JPG at 300dpi minimum for the actual logo size
- Brand guidelines: Pantone codes or hex values for colors
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Low-resolution images (< 150dpi) — will look pixelated when knitted
- Screenshots of logos — usually too low quality
- Colors described in words instead of codes
- Unusual fonts — may not translate well to knit or embroidery
Don’t worry if your file isn’t perfect — our design team can redraw, simplify, and optimize any logo for production at no extra cost.
From Artwork to Knitting: Technical Steps
1. Pattern Development (Jacquard)
Your design is converted into a knitting pattern grid. Each pixel becomes a stitch, and every stitch maps to a yarn color. Up to 6 colors can appear in one jacquard pattern. See our jacquard guide for color and pattern rules.
2. Embroidery Digitizing
For embroidered logos, your artwork is digitized into stitch commands: density, underlay, and thread colors. Dense logos need more stitches; fine details need careful thread planning. See our embroidery guide.
3. Grip Layout
For grip socks, the dot pattern (silicone or PVC) is laid out for optimal grip and comfort. See our grip socks guide for dot options.
4. Mockup & Approval
Before any production, you receive a free digital mockup showing exactly how your design will look on the sock. Approve it, refine it, or change it — then we move to sampling.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you design custom socks for me?
Yes — if you only have an idea, our design team can create the artwork, mockup, and production files for you. Many clients with just a brand name get a complete sock design from us.
What if my logo is low quality?
We redraw low-quality logos in vector format free of charge. Send us the original image — even a photo or screenshot — and we’ll clean it up for production.
How many design revisions are included?
We include up to 3 rounds of mockup revisions before sampling. Most designs are approved in 1-2 rounds. Additional revision rounds are free too — we believe in getting it right.
